PIOR AINDA...!!! QUE HORROR...
Realmente gostaria que várias pessoas pudessem ler sobre este artigo, pois quando fui ao site indicado, segui a ideia do Tetracloro, que ia ver o site, consegui ver os horrores que continuam a ser cometidos, não só com macacos, mas com outros animais e... ninguém termina com isto.
Lamento passar em inglês o que está no site, mas, dá para ficar com um ideia:
What's wrong with BPRC?
Vivisection cruel and unnecessary.
In the Netherlands more than 70,000 animals are dying in the labs each year. They have to go through tests in which they are gassed, blinded, mutilated and burned. The Biomedical Primate Research Center (BPRC) is Europe's largest primate research lab. Around 1600 monkeys are kept here, of which approximately 110 are chimpansees, approximately 1000 are rhesus-monkeys, and includes a number of other monkeys who are actually on the list of endangered species. These monkeys have to go through different and painful experiments. The BPRC is performing tests in the area of infection-illnesses (such as AIDS, hepatitis and malaria), xenotransplantation, radiation, tear gas (for self defence), chronic diseases and neurological abnormities.
Where do the monkeys come from?
Next to their own breeding programme, the BPRC has the use/loan-agreement with the safari park, Beekse Bergen. This agreement is basically that if the BPRC should run short of rhesus-monkeys, the baby-rhesus-monkeys from Beekse Bergen will be taken away from their mothers to be brought to the tiny cages in the BPRC. Many of the rhesus-monkeys inside the BPRC are growing with deformities, because they cannot stand upright in the small steel cages. Monkeys are also being bought (approximately 250 every year) from the independant world trade monkeys are imported from China, Pakistan and India. Approximately 30 % of these monkeys don't survive the journey.
Does the research have any value?
After years of research there are few results and even these are not reliable. The monkeys are not developing the human AIDS, which the researchers had to admit long ago. Despite this a whole colony of monkeys are being held captive in the BPRC for AIDS-research. One of these chimpansees was kept in solitary confinement for 10 years (despite the fact that chimpansees are social group animals), with the aim of seeing what happens to a chimpansee when it is infected with HIV. The research didn't deliver one single result. The reliability of these experiments is zero even when there is a result. For example, the medicines used for the treatment of malaria are known to produce new side effects in humans all the time. As this indicates, there are lots of examples of a product being passed as reliable because of animal testing and then later having serious side effects on humans, such as paralysis, blindness, infertility and more. With the research regarding xenotransplantation, the BPRC makes use of the Dutch legislation in a clever way by the use of imported genetically manipulated pigs from the UK. In the Netherlands there is no real legislation concerning xenotransplantion. The fact that the BPRC lets animals suffer and die in tests paid by the Dutch, German and American armies, for destruction-weapons invented by humans such as poison gasses and nerve gasses, is too ridiculous to find words for.
Every year in the Netherlands the authorities hands over millions of euros for animal experimentation. This is despite the fact that the countries surrounding us are speaking out more and more about reducing the use of lab animals, both in general and specifically concerning the use of primates. Cheap and reliable scientific alternatives are available to replace animal experiments, but the authorities are not supporting these projects financially. For every euro that the authorities give for animal experimentation only 0,6 cents are going towards experiments without animals. The action campaign Koen demands that the animal abuse comes to an end in the vivisection centre BPRC. Take action against the horrors that are taking place there!

Já várias vezes se tem falado sobre esta carnificina, justificada sempre em nome da defesa da Humanidade.
É claro que há alternativas mas os políticos que decidem sobre essas coisas só querem saber de números e não de sentimentos.
Tens razão em sentires-te assim tão revoltada, ainda por cima com a experiência que estás a viver tu-própria, o que te deixa completamente "de rastos"...
Nestas ocasiões é que se confirma a força que temos...
É muito fácil de dizer para quem está de fora, mas outra coisa não podemos fazer: o teu caso e o destes pobres animais têm que ser denunciados fortemente, quantas vezes forem necessárias, nos mais diversos sítios...
Infelizmente, a nossa realidade é esta...

Quando leio textos destes, quero sempre pensar que não é verdade, que não pode ser, que há alguma dose de exagero.
Mas infelizmente não é o caso. No século XXI, situações como estas existem. E o que mais me entristece é que me sinto impotente para fazer seja o que for.

Apoio 100% esta tua iniciativa de chamar a atenção para a crueldade cometida contra os animais! Uma causa muito esquecida - muitos seres humanos acham que são "donos" dos animais e seres superiores e por isso podem com eles fazer o que lhes aprouver!
